REVIEW - THE LEVITATORS - DANCING MOOD
From Finland comes this band, The Levitators. Little is known about them, except that
they have worked with "The Original Black Star Man" Daddy T-Roy aka Tero Kaski
for whom they did some backing tapes in the late eighties and that they were
also involved in another music project called Massive Crew. They are skilled
musicians who take their inspiration from the great names in reggae music. Their
style can best be described as traditional 70's reggae music, with fine dub
influences. The five man band presents here 11 songs they recorded between 1985
to 1996 in the Lahti area in Finland.
The album is a nice mixture of originals and reggae classics such as Delroy Wilson's Dancing Mood and Augustus Pablo's Cassava Piece. Furthermore they have reworked the Curtis Mayfield/Techniques tune Queen Majesty and the result is definitely worth
while checking out. Some 7 tunes are done inna showcase style, meaning that they
have added the dub version as well. Take A Medley comprises
three songs, first there's the Studio One riddim 'Take A Ride', followed by two
originals written by Levi Tutor.
